The Flower Universe is a jewellery collection inspired by Edwin Charmain’s lifelong relationship with batik, a visual language from his upbringing in Pekalongan, Central Java. Rather than a direct translation of textiles into metal, the collection explores how botanical forms, patterns, and symbols can persist, evolve, and bloom in jewellery.
At its centre is Sekar Jagad, a Central Javanese motif whose name combines jagad (world, in Javanese) and kaart (map, in Dutch). Often understood as “flower of the world,” the motif conveys harmony through diversity and the interplay of tradition and adaptation. This symbolic geometry guided the collection’s design, informing the rhythm, structure, and layering of floral forms rendered in silver and freshwater pearls.
Each piece transforms floral inspiration into intricate filigree, granulation, and wirework, balancing delicacy with structural strength. The designs reinterpret patterns inherited from textile tradition, architecture, and nature into jewellery that carries narrative, rhythm, and symbolic resonance.
Through recurring motifs and rhythmic geometry, the collection forms a cohesive universe — a series of pieces that are visually and conceptually linked, while offering collectors individual expressions of pattern, form, and memory.
